I have used these headphones in environment and in a way probably intended for cheaper buds. They withstood this treatment for two years. Id consider myself a realist audiophile and have listened to both reasonably high end and low end gear. These headphones have an excellent smooth sound signature. They shine best with something like a smartphone or CD player and sound smooth and clear, midrange weighted. The highs are present and the bass is neutral. A very neutral smooth sound signature. Sounds best with a Sony high Res player/phone or a CD player. Usually gets the Sony phone treatment which has a jack. These are my daily driver simply as I like the sound signature.

If you are into tape though: The harmonics (tape sound) of even modified high end tape players were less suited to these headphones; often sounding a bit too thick to the expense of highs unless you dial the bass back (I have an Aiwa Walkman that can do this. My D6C modified cannot). This was more when playing Type I tapes with the mellowing out this type often produces. With Metal and Chrome tapes this was not an issue. The headphones sound signature would suit the sound of True Cr02. Id usually use a pair of DT770s or use a Walkman with EQ settings with these to get the best sound from tape. These headphones are therefore best* suited to digital sources in my opinion.

They finally stopped working after two years of rolling on them at night when sleeping, and multiple camping trips, often stuffed into a pocket or pack.

Contacting soundmagic and asking if repair or cable replacement for a fee was possible (as they were a gift) they did direct me to a place that might be able to but cannot do this in-house. They also gave me a discount code for a future product of 20%. That was an excellent thing to do especially given that I used them well outside of directions and did say as such. Will probably replace the cable myself at some stage.

Excellent quality headphones and customer service and definitely worth the price tag.

My partner I got the USB C D version. This version has a reasonable DAC that is better than his smartphone DAC, but my Sony phone DAC with the 3.5mm jack version of the E11 does eclipse it in terms of warmth.

The E11D DAC has a more clean, crisp hard sound signature, so if that is what you are looking for it will suit. It can be softened up a bit by playing with bass settings. The real advantage for me with the usb version would be using it with a laptop for voice or video calls. That DAC will eclipse most laptop DACs with ease as the microphone input on many laptops is noisy. You can get USB A to C adapters.

My partner's midrange smartphone has a terrible DAC / amp stage worse than the average smartphone and this was a good improvement. DACs are generally a solved problem now. The connector feels sturdy.

If you want a headphone that is well balanced for the price point and a cheap entry into high quality digital music, get them. I was able to tell the difference between FLAC and lossy with these (android resamples any output; a lossless file will lose less information in this process). They are not a high end headphone, but an affordable daily driver that sounds good. They will sound far better than a set of £5 or £10 buds.

If you are using tape, be mindful Type I tapes might not sound their best.

Good sounding earphones ,only thing different I'd like is if they had a rubber bit to grip in or around your ear to hold them in better .
